Five things I help with — explained plainly.

Every engagement is shaped around what is actually happening, not a fixed product. The aim is clarity, structure and delivery that holds up after I’ve gone.

Quiet modern boardroom representing calm, considered technology leadership
01

Interim IT Leadership

Useful when the IT function needs senior direction, the team is stretched, or decisions are being delayed because ownership is unclear.

When this is useful

A leadership gap, a stretched team, a programme that has lost momentum, or a moment of change where confident, experienced direction is needed quickly.

Typical problems addressed

  • Head of IT or CIO role is vacant, in transition, or under pressure
  • Delivery has stalled and accountability has become unclear
  • Technical teams are working hard but not aligned to business priorities
  • Executive team lacks a trusted technology voice in the room

What ClearHorizon IT does

  • Quickly understand the environment, team and key risks
  • Stabilise day-to-day operations and re-establish governance
  • Set direction, sequence work and protect the team’s focus
  • Translate between executives, operations and technical staff

Practical outputs

  • Operating-model and team review
  • Prioritised technology roadmap
  • Executive and board briefings
  • Improved supplier and budget visibility

Likely outcomes

  • Calmer, more confident IT function
  • Clear priorities and delivery cadence
  • Stronger handover to permanent leadership

Relevant experience — Experience leading IT functions across healthcare, diagnostics and education, including operating-model change that delivered measurable cost reduction.

02

Cyber Security & Compliance Maturity

I help organisations work out where their cyber risk actually sits, what needs fixing first, and how to move towards Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001 or stronger internal controls — without turning it into a box-ticking exercise.

When this is useful

Cyber posture feels uncertain, audit or certification is on the horizon, or controls exist on paper but are not embedded in how the organisation actually works.

Typical problems addressed

  • Limited visibility of assets, exposures and supplier risk
  • Policies that are written but not lived day-to-day
  • Certification pressure (Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001, DSPT)
  • Security treated as a tooling problem rather than a leadership one

What ClearHorizon IT does

  • Independent maturity review against a recognised framework
  • Practical control design proportionate to risk and resource
  • Lead or support certification end-to-end
  • Embed governance, ownership and routine assurance

Practical outputs

  • Cyber maturity assessment and prioritised plan
  • Policy, governance and risk register set
  • Audit-ready evidence pack
  • Supplier and access-control improvement plan

Likely outcomes

  • Certification achieved and sustained
  • Reduced material risk and clearer ownership
  • Confidence at board, customer and audit level

Relevant experience — Cyber Essentials Plus achieved from a standing start. Multiple ISO 27001 and CE+ audits passed with zero non-conformances.

03

AI Governance & Responsible Adoption

I help leadership teams put sensible guardrails around AI, so staff know what they can use, what they should avoid, and where the real risks sit.

When this is useful

AI tools are entering the organisation faster than the policies, controls and skills required to use them safely — and leadership needs a calm, balanced position.

Typical problems addressed

  • No clear policy on acceptable AI use
  • Uncertainty about Copilot, ChatGPT and similar tools in regulated work
  • Data, IP and confidentiality concerns
  • Staff want to use AI; leadership wants confidence it is safe

What ClearHorizon IT does

  • Lightweight AI governance framework aligned to ISO 42001 thinking
  • Acceptable-use policy and practical staff guidance
  • Risk review of current AI usage, suppliers and data flows
  • Microsoft Copilot and ecosystem alignment

Practical outputs

  • AI policy and acceptable-use guidance
  • AI risk register and supplier review
  • Staff briefing materials
  • Roadmap for safe, useful adoption

Likely outcomes

  • Confident, consistent position on AI
  • Reduced data and reputational risk
  • AI used productively where it adds real value

Relevant experience — ISO 42001 Lead Implementer. Hands-on experience integrating Microsoft 365 and Copilot in regulated environments.

04

Board Advisory & Technology Risk Reviews

An independent, plain-English read on technology risk, cost and resilience — for boards and executives who want a credible second opinion before a big decision.

When this is useful

Boards and executive teams need a clear, independent view of technology — without consulting jargon, vendor bias or a sales agenda behind it.

Typical problems addressed

  • Technology risk does not get the same airtime as financial or operational risk
  • Uncertainty about whether current IT spend is delivering value
  • Difficult cyber, AI or transformation decisions on the table
  • Need for a credible second opinion ahead of a board paper

What ClearHorizon IT does

  • Independent technology, cyber and AI risk review
  • Plain-English board paper and verbal briefing
  • Challenge of major spend, supplier or transformation decisions
  • Ongoing advisory support to a CEO, CFO or board

Practical outputs

  • Board-ready briefing and recommendations
  • Technology risk and maturity heat map
  • Prioritised investment view
  • Independent decision-support notes

Likely outcomes

  • Better-informed board decisions
  • Reduced risk of poor large-ticket choices
  • Stronger alignment between strategy, risk and IT spend

Relevant experience — Has presented technology risk, cyber maturity and transformation positions at board and parent-company level across regulated organisations.

05

Digital Transformation Leadership

I help recover technology projects that have lost momentum, bring structure to delivery, and make sure change lands with the people who actually need to use it.

When this is useful

A transformation has stalled, scope is drifting, or a complex change programme needs senior delivery leadership rather than another delivery framework.

Typical problems addressed

  • Programme has lost focus, sponsorship or pace
  • Multiple suppliers, unclear accountability and rising cost
  • Technology is being deployed but not adopted
  • Business case is no longer obviously on track

What ClearHorizon IT does

  • Independent programme review and reset where needed
  • Clear delivery structure, sequencing and governance
  • Supplier and partner orchestration
  • Adoption, change and benefits realisation focus

Practical outputs

  • Programme reset plan and revised roadmap
  • Delivery governance and reporting
  • Supplier accountability framework
  • Adoption and benefits-tracking approach

Likely outcomes

  • Programme back on a credible track
  • Adoption and value, not just deployment
  • Confidence at sponsor and board level

Relevant experience — Experience leading Microsoft 365, infrastructure, customer-facing and operational transformation across regulated organisations.
